ZIM vs PAK: 2nd Test, Stats Review – Hasan Ali’s milestones and more stats
Pakistan have clinched the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe by 2-0 with an excellent win in the second game. The visiting side registered a dominating victory by an innings and 147 runs in the final match of the series. Zimbabwe lost their 10th wicket of the second innings on the fourth day after they were asked to follow on earlier in the match.
Nauman Ali and Shaheen Afridi were the stars of the Pakistan bowling attack in the second innings, with both picking 10 wickets between them. Zimbabwe were dismissed for 231 runs in 68 overs in their second innings. Regis Chakabva top-scored for them with 80 runs coming off his bat in 137 balls. Earlier in the first innings, Zimbabwe were all-out for 132 runs in response to Pakistan’s total of 510/8.
Let’s look at important stats and numbers after the end of the second Test between Zimbabwe and Pakistan:
12 – This was the 12th Test win for Pakistan against Zimbabwe. They have now surpassed New Zealand (11) in this regard, and have achieved the second spot after Sri Lanka (14).
14 – Hasan Ali picked up 14 wickets in this series including two 5-wicket hauls. He surpassed Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis (13) in terms of taking the most wickets in a Test series for Pakistan in Zimbabwe.
132 – The first innings total of 132 by Zimbabwe is their second-lowest innings total in Test cricket against Pakistan.
40 – Hasan Ali has now taken 40 wickets in International cricket this year. He has picked up most wickets in 2021 followed by Ravi Ashwin (34) and Shaheen Afridi (30).
2003 – This was the first time since 2003 when Zimbabwe were made to follow on in two consecutive Test series. They were earlier asked to follow on in the second Test against Afghanistan.
7 – Shaheen Afridi and Nauman Ali picked up 5 wickets each in the third innings of the match. This was the seventh such instance for Pakistan in Test cricket.
1 – All 10 wickets were picked up by left-arm bowlers in the third innings of the match (By Nauman Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi). This was the first time such an instance happened for Pakistan in the longest format.
2 – Nauman Ali and Shaheen Afridi became the second pair of left-arm bowlers to take fifers in the same Test innings. The last time such instance happened was way back in 1909 when England left-arm bowlers (George Hirst and Colin Blythe) picked all 10 wickets in a Test vs Australia in Birmingham.
