ZIM vs IND: Most runs in ODI encounters
India will be touring Zimbabwe for three One Day Internationals starting August 18. All the matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club. The rivalry has witnessed some outstanding individual performances over the years with some memorable moments in the 90 and early 2000s when Zimbabwe Cricket was at its peak.
Zimbabwe used to be a competitive side back in the day with the likes of Heath Streak, Flower brothers (Andy & Grant), Tatenda Taibu, Henry Olonga, etc. who were once-in-a-generation cricketers. Without further ado, here’s a look at the players who have scored the most runs in India vs Zimbabwe ODIs.
3. Andy Flower (1298 runs):
Andy Flower occupies the third position in this category and remains the highest run-getter for Zimbabwe against India in One Day Internationals to date. In fact, he had registered his highest ODI score of 145 against India during a 2002 Champions Trophy game in Colombo. The Zimbabwean batting legend has amassed 1298 runs against the Indian team and his best performance came in the 1999 World Cup group encounter where his vital 68 helped his side in registering a three-run win.
2. Sourav Ganguly (1367 runs):
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly occupies the second position when it comes to scoring the most number of runs against Zimbabwe. Ganguly enjoyed the challenges posed by the lethal Zimbabwe bowlers like Henry Olonga, Heath Streak, Eddo Brandes, etc. The reigning Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President scored 1367 runs against Zimbabwe with his best knock of 144 at Ahmedabad in 2000.
- Sachin Tendulkar (1377 runs):
Sachin Tendulkar takes the top spot on this elite list. The Master Blaster amassed 1377 runs in One Day Internationals against Zimbabwe averaging 49. While he has showcased many impactful performances against the Zimbabweans, it was his match-winning 124 in the 1998 Sharjah Cup final that stood out from the rest. He was undone by Henry Olonga in the previous match, but saved his best for the last and made his bat do the talking in the grand finale as he had the last laugh over the star pacer by taking him to the cleaners at regular intervals.
