Younis Khan narrates an incident from an ODI series against India
The cricket matches hosted between India and Pakistan are quite intense. Both the teams are at their fluent best while facing each other as they don’t want to lose against their arch-rivals. Former Pakistan captain and current batting coach Younis Khan revealed an instance from a game between India and Pakistan when he managed to upset his then captain Moin Khan due to his forgettable performance with the willow.
There is no doubt to the fact that Younis is one of the finest batsmen to have played for Men in Green in the International circuit. The 43-year-old has a whopping 10,099 runs under his belt in 118 Test matches along with 7,249 One Day runs in 265 fixtures. However, there was a phase in Younis’ cricket career when he struggled to get going. On one such occasion, the right-hander even became a victim of scolding from Moin Khan.
Younis was addressing a group of reporters when he recalled an instance from an ODI series against India in 2000 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Batting in one of the One Day Internationals, Younis lost his wicket to India’s veteran spinner and marched back to the pavilion on a duck. The dismissal of the legendary batter angered then skipper Moin and he made sure to express his disappointment.
Recalling the incident, Younis said, “I remember I started my international cricket under Moin Khan. He has scolded me as well. I got out in a match against India for a duck and Moin bhai was at the other end and he wasn’t happy at all. But, thanks to him, I learnt from my mistakes and he has had a big role to play in my success in international cricket.”
We will have a stable middle-order soon: Younis Khan
The current Pakistan team is enjoying a good run in the International circuit as they thrashed South Africa and Zimbabwe. However, the inexperienced middle-order has emerged as one of the major problems for the Men in Green. The batting coach is confident that Pakistan will be able to resolve the issue and will emerge stronger.
“We have spoken a lot about the Pakistan middle-order. We are trying out many players as well and hopefully, we will have a stable middle-order soon. We played South Africa both home and away and also toured Zimbabwe. Now, we are going to England and the West Indies. There are some very good tours coming up and hopefully, Pakistan will keep putting up good performances and win more trophies,” Younis signed off.
