Youngest double centurions in ODIs
There are many players who have scored a century in ODIs, but converting the knock into a double-hundred is a challenge. A batter must possess the necessary technique, perseverance, attention, and aptitude to manage the innings well if they want to reach the 200-run milestone in a 50-over match. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar was the first player to achieve the feat in ODIs.
Since then, many players have reached the feat, but only four other Indian players have managed to do it. Playing against South Africa in an ODI in 2010, The Little Master attained the accomplishment, towards the end of his international career. But several cricketers have accomplished this accomplishment in the early phases of their careers. On that note, let’s look at the three youngest double-centurions in ODIs:
3. 26y 186d – Rohit Sharma vs Australia in 2013
Smashing a century at the age of 26 years and 186 days, Rohit Sharma became the youngest player ever to score a double century. A year later, he notched up another century to etch his name in the elite list for the second time. In a game against Australia in 2013, Rohit smashed 209 runs off 158 deliveries to create the record.
2. 24y 145d – Ishan Kishan vs Bangladesh in 2022
In December 2022, Ishan Kishan notched up his maiden century against Bangladesh, and converted it into a double hundred, becoming the fastest double centurion. He scored 210 runs off 131 deliveries and his knock included 24 fours and 10 sixes. At the time of the knock, Ishan’s age was 24 years and 145 days as he surpassed his captain Rohit’s record.
1. 23y 132d – Shubman Gill vs New Zealand in 2023
Just a few weeks after Ishan Kishan’s blistering knock, Shubman Gill broke his record to become the youngest player ever to score a double century. As India hosted New Zealand for three ODIs, Gill notched up 208 runs off 149 deliveries, hitting 19 fours and nine sixes, in the first game at Hyderabad. He achieved the feat aged 23 years and 132 days.
