Yashasvi Jaiswal opens up after record-breaking century on Test debut
Courtesy of a terrific ton against West Indies, youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal joined the elite panel of players who scored a century on his Test debut. After remaining unbeaten on 40* on Day 1, the cricketer looked magnificent throughout Day 2 and with that, he registered his maiden century in international cricket. He showed great composure and determination in the middle as the Windies bowlers looked clueless for the majority part of the day.
Meanwhile, talking about his incredible knock, Jaiswal mentioned that he wants to dedicate this knock to his parents and added that it is just the beginning as he has bigger targets on his mind. Notably, thanks to his knock, India are currently 162 runs ahead of the hosts and Jaiswal will be aiming to smash his maiden double century, as he is currently batting on 143*.
“It is very emotional for me and my family. For everyone who has supported me in any way. It has been a long journey. I want to say thank you to everyone who have helped me. I want to dedicate this to my mother and father, they’ve contributed a lot. Thanks to god. I won’t say much now… I’m happy, this is just a start, I’ve a lot to do,” the 21-year-old said in the video clip posted by the BCCI.
Coming from a humble background, Jaiswal worked really hard in the domestic circuit and became one of the most consistent performers for Mumbai. Later on, Rajasthan Royals signed him for the Indian Premier League but the cricketer couldn’t make a name for himself in the first couple of years. However, in 2023, he played some brilliant cricket, hitting 625 runs in 14 matches and emerged as the young player of the year.
Courtesy of the same, Jaiswal was handed the opportunity to make his Test debut and has also been called up for the upcoming five-match T20I series. If he keeps up with his form, the cricketer can soon be the next big star of Indian cricket.
