Yashasvi Jaiswal elated after entering elite list with twin centuries
Yashasvi Jaiswal is honored to see his name with legends like ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar and ‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma in an elite list of players after smashing twin centuries in the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Uttar Pradesh. Jaiswal scored 100 in the first innings and followed it up with an outstanding 181 in the second to help Mumbai seal a place in the summit clash.
It was his gritty performance in the second innings that stood out the most. He only opened his account on the 54th ball that he faced and there was no looking back for him since then as he went on to make the UP bowlers look totally clueless. As the emerging batter registered back-to-back centuries in the same match, he joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, and Wasim Jaffer to achieve this unique feat in Ranji Trophy.
I wasn’t aware of this record: Yashasvi Jaiswal
“I studied the wicket and realised that it was slow. When Prithvi got out, I discussed the plan with Armaan Jaffer. I wanted to give myself time at the crease because I wanted to stay in the middle for as long as possible. This was my plan. I know it took me a lot of balls to get off the mark, but once I was settled, I started accelerating,” Jaiswal told Times of India.
“I wasn’t aware of this record. When I returned to the dressing room, my teammates told me about this. I am honoured to see my name with legends like Sachin sir, Wasim sir, Rohit and Ajinkya,” he added.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged the Player of the Match for his twin centuries in the key clash as Mumbai made it to their 47th Ranji Trophy final. They will now eye a record 42nd title when they lock horns with Madhya Pradesh at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 22. Meanwhile, this is also a special occasion of MP as they have succeeded in making the Ranji final after a long wait of 23 years.
