WTC final: Yuvraj Singh backs India to win against New Zealand
It was a known fact that India has been doing exceptionally well at home and beating top teams like Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and more recently England along the way to reach the top of the rankings in Test cricket. But how well they do abroad was always a question every cricket fan and expert had in their mind. Beating Australia two times in their backyard and West Indies have silenced the doubters.
Barring a Test series win in South Africa, India has now beaten the remaining SENA countries in their home. These victories have now given hopes to million people ahead of the much-awaited ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand. The marquee clash will be played at Southampton.
Former India allrounder Yuvraj Singh has agreed with other experts that India can beat the Kiwis in the summit clash which begins on June 18. Yuvraj’s confidence stems from the fact that India has all the bases covered and can tackle any conditions with pace and swing.
“I think it’s a very good idea to take Test cricket to the next level, I feel India is very strong because India has performed brilliantly on overseas tours, won twice in Australia. I think India have a belief that they can win anywhere, but the conditions in England are different, I am sure India should beat New Zealand,” Yuvraj Singh told Aaj Tak.
India gearing up to face New Zealand in the WTC Final
India just lost a sole series versus New Zealand in the WTC cycle in the early part of 2020. Apart from a small blip, India has convincingly defeated other top teams and finished on top with 520 points. On the other hand, their opponents the Blackcaps have dominated teams at home and won five series. The two teams will battle it out now at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
While New Zealand boasts of a good bowling attack in the form of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson, and Matt Henry, India too have the likes of Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammed Siraj. While the pitch has kept everyone curious as to what will be on offer, India has all the bases covered to battle it out against the Kiwis.
