WTC final: Kennington Oval – Venue stats
The second World Test Championship (WTC) Final is all set to take place between India and Australia beginning today on June 7 at The Oval in London. The Asian giants will be playing their second straight final after the defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the inaugural WTC summit clash in 2021.
The Aussies dominated the current WTC cycle (2021-23) as they won 11 out of the 19 matches to finish at the top of the table with 152 points. The team from Down Under lost just three games while the rest five ended in a draw. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s side played 18 Tests with ten victories and five defeats, with the remaining three ending in a draw. With 127 points, India sealed the second spot behind Australia to qualify for the second successive final.
After having beaten the Kangaroos 2-1 (4) earlier in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in India, Rohit and his men will be confident to clinch a victory and end their drought for the ICC title. India last won a major trophy ten years back when MS Dhoni’s team beat England in the final of the Champions Trophy.
Speaking about the record of both sides at the venue, India played their first-ever Test match against England in 1936 when they lost by nine wickets. Their most recent outing at The Oval ended up in a win as they beat the hosts by 157 runs margin in 2021. Overall, India’s record is not that encouraging as they have played 14 games with just two wins, five losses, and seven draws.

They also lost their last match here in 2019 when the English side emerged victorious by a 135-run margin. Overall, the Aussies have played 38 games with seven wins, 17 losses, and 14 draws.
