WTC Final: IND vs NZ, Day 3 – Jamieson fifer, openers put NZ in front
New Zealand will surely be the happier side at the end of Day 3 of the World Test Championship final against India. The Kane Williamson-led side ended the day at a commanding position, with their scorecard reading 101/2 after 49 overs. Devon Conway once again impressed with the willow, scoring a half century. Skipper Williamson and Ross Taylor are the two batsmen out in the middle for the Blackcaps.
Earlier in the day, the Indian team was bowled out for a total of 217. So, let us take a look at the three talking points of Day 3 of the WTC Final.
3. New Zealand openers put on a solid partnership
Tom Latham and Devon Conway kept the Indian bowlers at bay, providing an ideal platform for New Zealand at the top of the order. The duo put on a patient partnership of 70 runs and survived for 34.2 overs. While Conway scored 54 off 153 deliveries, Latham helped himself to a 104-ball 30.
2. Virat Kohli’s century drought continues
The last time that Virat Kohli scored a century in international cricket was way back in November 2019. Since then, a three-figure score has eluded the Indian batting maestro. At the end of Day 2, Kohli was unbeaten on 44, and it looked as if he might kick on and score that elusive ton on Day 3. But then, the Indian skipper failed to add to his overnight tally of runs, and was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson.
1. Kyle Jamieson shatters India with a five-wicket haul
The shining light on Day 3 was Kiwi speedster Kyle Jamieson. The right-arm pacer picked up 5 wickets, including the big one of Virat Kohli in his devastating 22-over spell. He also gave away runs at a miserly economy rate of just 1.40 runs per over. Jamieson’s spell helped New Zealand restrict India to 217.
