WTC Final, IND v NZ: Stats Review – Williamson’s landmark and more stats from day 6
New Zealand scripted history in Southampton with a victory against India in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). They become the inaugural champions of WTC with an 8-wicket victory. Earlier in the day, India collapsed for 170 runs in the second innings giving the Kiwis a target of 139 runs in the fourth innings. Rishabh Pant was the top scorer for India with 41 runs coming off his bat from 88 balls.
Tim Southee picked up 4 wickets for 48 runs in 19 overs. Chasing the target, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and veteran batsman Ross Taylor played fine knocks for their team to ensure victory. Ravi Ashwin picked up both the 2 wickets for India.

2 – This was only the second trophy for New Zealand in an ICC tournament. They earlier won the Champions Trophy in 2000 where they defeated India by 4 wickets in the final.

26 – Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson added 96 runs for the third wicket. This was their 26th fifty+ partnership for the third wicket in Tests and reached the third spot going past Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen (25).
1000 – Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed without scoring in the second innings. He registered the 1000th duck for India in their Test history.
6 – Bumrah had 6 ducks in WTC and reached the top spot in this unwanted list.
2 – Jasprit Bumrah registered a pair in this Test. He became the second Indian after Shahbaz Nadeem to bag a pair in WTC.
1 – Kane Williamson became the first New Zealand captain to hit fifty in an ICC final. Before him, Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum were unable to reach the 50-run mark in the final of the ICC events.
101 – Kane Williamson scored a total of 101 runs in both innings. Only Chris Cairns who scored a century in Champions Trophy final 2000 had 100+ runs in an ICC final for New Zealand before him.
1 – New Zealand became the winners of the inaugural edition of WTC. Before them, West Indies, South Africa and India became champions in ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup respectively.
