WTC final: Former players name their picks for the top-run scorer in IND – NZ clash

Williamson & Kohli

The World Test Championship Final (WTC) is set for an exciting finale between the two top teams, India and New Zealand, which begins on June 18 in Southampton. New Zealand are battling it out in a two-match Test series in England, on the other hand, the Men in Blue reached the United Kingdom on June 3 and are gearing up for the marquee clash.

Both the teams are not short of superstars with the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Rohit Sharma, Tom Latham, Tim Southee and Jasprit Bumrah ready to show off their skills at the biggest stage. While there are already discussions going around regarding the pitch for the summit clash, both the teams do have enough firepower to tackle whatever is thrown at them.

New Zealand showed their batting class against the English bowlers by scoring 378 at Lord’s in the first Test, with Devon Conway scoring a scintillating double-hundred on debut, whereas India displayed their batting depth in their thumping 3-1 series win against England.

During a discussion on Star Sports chat show Cricket Connected, former cricketers Ajit Agarkar, Parthiv Patel, Scott Styris and Irfan Pathan have picked their favorite players who would likely score the most runs in the WTC final match. Here is how the experts gave their answer and justified it.

Scott Styris picks an unexpected name for the highest run-scorer in WTC final

Ajit Agarkar said, “I am going to go with Virat Kohli, actually. I think he has shown us what he could do in England, the second time he toured, even under difficult conditions. He’d want to be the man to stand up for India.

Parthiv Patel went with India’s Mr. Dependable Cheteshwar Pujara, due to his ability to bat for a long period of time and not throwing his wicket easily.

I will back Pujara to be the highest scorer in this Test match. If India has to win, I think Pujara is going to be the key player. No.3, if India loses an early wicket. If he goes on to bat for say three-four hours in this Test match, I think India will be in a very good position.

Former India allrounder Irfan Pathan went with Kane Williamson,”I think Kane Williamson will be the highest scorer.

While Scott Styris picked a dark horse in Devon Conway. “Of course it is going to be a New Zealander, Kane Williamson or Devon Conway. I am going to go away from king Kane, Devon Conway.
