The weather in Southampton has been playing a few tricks for the past few days. After day one washed out due to rain, there were a total of 141 overs possible on the next two days. The forecast for day four of the match between India and New Zealand doesn’t seem very promising and there might not be a lot of play.

In the middle of this, cricketer-turned commentator Dinesh Karthik gave an update about the weather of Southampton in the early morning on Monday. Going by the look of the story which was uploaded by him on Instagram, it is safe to say that the weather is as gloomy as it can be as of now at the Hampshire Bowl.

Dinesh Karthik has been impressive with his commentary stint so far

Dinesh Karthik’s story had an image of the ground and the overcast conditions. He put up a caption, “Doesn’t look great at the moment.’ The match is almost certain to go into the sixth day, which is a reserve day allowed especially for this game. Luckily, as of now, the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, which is the fifth and the sixth day of the match, seems good. One can expect a lot of overs bowled on those days but there could be a high percentage of overs which will be lost on day four, something which has been suggested by several cricket experts.

The match at this moment is well in control of the New Zealand team, who got off to a good start with the bat after dismissing India for just 217 in their first innings. After being ahead in the game at the score of 146 for 3 at stumps on day two, India slipped to 217 all-out. At the stumps on day three, New Zealand was 101 for 2, and marginally ahead if everything is being put into perspective.

Talking about Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman has been enjoying his time in the United Kingdom. He got an opportunity to start his commentary career with a stint at the ICC World Test Championship final. So far, his insights on the game while being on air have been well-received by the fans while his cheeky humor and a bit of banter are something that has been quite interesting to hear.
