WPL 2023: Top 3 run-getters
The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League was nothing short of a spectacle. It was filled with a lot of drama, emotion and most importantly, high-voltage competition, that kept the fans on the edge of their seats throughout the course of the season.
Courtesy of their immense consistency, Mumbai Indians managed to lift the trophy, after beating Delhi Capitals by seven wickets on the night of the finals. Nat Sciver-Brunt was at her meticulous best with the bat throughout the season and on the night of the final, she once again rose to the occasion and helped her franchise get over the line. On that note, let us find out the top three run-scorers in WPL 2023:
3. Tahila McGrath
The 27-year-old Tahila McGrath was spectacular for UP Warriorz in the recently concluded season. She delivered with the bat time and again and eventually amassed 302 runs in nine matches at a whopping strike rate of 158.11. She played an important role in helping her franchise qualify for the playoffs and was arguably UP’s best player of the season.
2. Nat Sciver-Brunt
Mumbai Indians broke the bank and signed Nat Sciver-Brunt for INR 3.2 crore in the auction. The England international did not disappoint as she inspired the team to win the trophy in the inaugural season. Notably, the 30-year-old wreaked havoc in the middle, scoring 332 runs in ten matches and out of which, her 60* runs off 55 deliveries on the night of the finals will surely be the most special one for her.
1. Meg Lanning
Enough though Delhi could not win the trophy, skipper Meg Lanning has impressed one and all. She was consistent with the bat throughout the season and amassed 345 runs in nine matches – making her the leading run-scorer of the tournament. She also played a valuable knock in the final but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.
