Would love to face West Indies bowling attack from the 80s: Steve Smith
One of the top batters in the modern era, Steve Smith revealed the name of the bowling attack he would like to face from the past. The 33-year-old was recently picked up for the T20 World Cup 2022 Australian squad. However, his role is yet to be specified in the side. With Tim David in the squad, it is going to be tough for Smith to make it to the playing XI, although he will have a chance to prove his T20 skills in the upcoming T20I series in India.
Smith has constantly been among the runs in the ODI and Test formats, and he recently scored a magnificent century against New Zealand in the third ODI to help his side complete a whitewash. With an average of 60 in Tests, Smith has dominated a lot of bowling attacks with his unorthodox batting technique and has found comparisons with the legendary Sir Donald Bradman.
Steve Smith feels the West Indian bowling attack in 1980s was ferocious
In an Instagram Q & A session, the fans shooted-up a lot of questions to Smith, and one fan had asked about “one bowler from past you would like to bat against?”. Smith replied to the query stating “I would love to face the West Indies bowling attack from the 80s. Everyone said they would be ferocious. It will be good to come up against them.”
The 1980 West Indian bowling attack comprised of four quicks who would blow away oppositions in a relatively quick time with their aggressive spells. The likes of Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Andy Roberts, and Joel Garner were among the West Indies quicks that rattled the opposition batters with their tall height and pace.
Meanwhile, Smith also posted a photo of travelling to India in the Instagram stories and it will be interesting to see if he can open the batting with skipper Aaron Finch. Notably, David Warner has been rested for the series while Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh are out of the India games due to injuries.
