ICC World Cup 2023: Schedule, Fixtures, Venues, Time Table and complete list of matches
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule has been announced. The mega event will be played across ten venues and it is scheduled to span 46 days later this year. Kicking off on October 5 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the World Cup will witness a repeat of the 2019 Final as England takes on New Zealand.
India, the proud host nation, will commence their campaign on October 8 in Chennai against the five-time World Cup champions, Australia. The tournament will feature a total of ten teams, with the first eight already securing their spots through the Cricket World Cup Super League. The remaining two positions will be determined at the conclusion of the Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe on July 9.
In an exhilarating round-robin format, each team will face off against the other nine competitors. The top four teams from this stage will advance to the knockout stage, culminating in the semi-finals.
Key fixtures
Fans are eagerly awaiting the India-Pakistan clash, scheduled for October 15 in Ahmedabad. The last encounter between these rivals in the 2019 World Cup witnessed an exhilarating high-scoring affair, with India securing a resounding victory in Manchester.
On October 22, India will lock horns with New Zealand in Dharamsala, seeking to avenge their defeat in the 2019 semi-final. November 4 will witness Australia facing off against arch-rivals England in Ahmedabad, reminiscent of the defending champions triumphant victory over the Aussies in the previous World Cup.
On October 29 in Lucknow, India will be eagerly waiting for England, aiming to turn the tables after their semi-final loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup. The group stage will culminate with England taking on Pakistan in Kolkata on November 12.
Knockouts and venues
The knockout stages will intensify the competition, with the first semi-final scheduled for November 15 in Mumbai, followed by the second semi-final on the next day in Kolkata. To account for unforeseen circumstances, both semi-finals will have a reserve day. Finally, the grand finale will take place on November 19 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, with November 20 allocated as the reserve day. All three knockout fixtures will be played as day-night encounters, commencing at 14:00 local time.
To accommodate the tournament, a total of ten venues have been selected: Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Additionally, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, along with Hyderabad, will host the warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3, adding further excitement to the lead-up of this prestigious event.
