Women’s World Cup – 3 Lowest team totals
The most embarrassing thing for a cricket team is to get all out for the lowest total in any format of the game. Not only in men’s cricket but in women’s cricket as well there have been plenty of low scores suffered by the female teams. The Women’s World Cup begins from 4th March and in the global event over the years, sides have managed humiliating totals.
Let’s look at the 3 lowest team totals in the Women’s World Cups
3.India women (37)
In 1982 WC, Indian women suffered a shambolic total of 37 against New Zealand women in Auckland. Back then, ODIs were played in a 60-overs format before the switch of the normal 50-overs rule. Speaking about the match, NZ women won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener Nicki Turned scored 22 but apart from Sujata Sridhar, all Indian women bowlers chipped in with wickets to bundle out the hosts for just 80 runs in 58.5 overs.
At halfway mark, the Indian team’s victory looked a formality but Jackie Lord had other ideas as she wreaked havoc with a devastating spell of six wickets for just ten runs with two maidens in eight overs. Only Rajeshwari Dholakia, who remained unbeaten on 10, touched double-digit as all other batters got out for single-digits. India got all out for just 37 runs in 35 overs to lose the match by 43 runs.
2. Netherlands women (29)
In the first match of the 1988 edition, the Netherlands team endured the second-lowest total against Australian women in WC history. In Perth, the hosts won the toss and chose to bat first. Both openers Lindsay Reeler and Ruth Buckstein struck tons as Australia posted 284/1 in 60 overs. No Dutch bowler could manage to take a wicket with Australia’s solitary wicket falling to a run-out.
In reply, only captain Anita van Lier mustered double digit-score of 12 runs with the rest of the batters getting out in single digits as Australian women dismissed the Dutch side for just 29 runs in 25.1 overs eventually winning the encounter by mammoth 255 runs. Karen Brown and Lyn Fallston took four and three wickets respectively.
1.Pakistan women (27)
In the 13th match of the 1997 WC, Pakistan women won the toss and opted to bat first against the Australian team in Hyderabad. Jodi Dannatt and Olivia Magno took three wickets each to bowl Pakistan out for a miserable total of just 27 runs in 13.4 overs, the lowest total in Women’s WC history. Australian women gave away eight runs extra otherwise the total would have been more disastrous of 19 runs. Only Kiran Ahtazaz who remained not out on 11 touched a double-digit score. Australia finished off the formality in just 6.1 overs to win the clash by nine wickets.
