Women’s T20 Challenge: 5 overseas players from last year who will be missed this season

T20

The third edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge is set to be played from November 4 to November 9 in UAE. All their games will take place in Sharjah, and three teams will be putting their best foot forward to take away the title. The tournament is conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to give women’s cricket the same level of exposure as that of men.

We have seen how different overseas stars also came up to ply their trade in this exciting league. Here we see five overseas women cricketers who will be missed in the current edition of the Women’s Indian Premier League.

1. Amelia Kerr

The New Zealand bowling all-rounder plied her trade for Velocity last year, which was led by Indian star Mithali Raj. She turned heads as she was the highest wicket-taker of the 2019 WT20 Challenge. The squads for the current season have been announced, and she hasn’t made it to the list, and it’s quite clear that Kiwi star would be missing this season. She is currently plying her trade for Brisbane Heat in the WBBL.

2. Hayley Matthews

The West Indies all-rounder was also part of IPL Velocity in last year’s WT20 Challenge. She has also been part of other T20 leagues like WBBL along with Hobart Hurricanes. However, she has not been named in this year’s list and would be missing the action. The Barbadian cricketer has 1046 runs in WODI and 948 WT20I runs. She has also represented Barbados in the Javelin throw during several international events.

3. Natalie Sciver

England women’s cricketer Nat Sciver would not be seen in the latest edition of the WT20 Challenge. She was part of Supernovas, the team that has shined well and won the title in both seasons of the WT20 event under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur. The all-rounder got the famous ‘Natmeg’ shot after her name when she hit the ball through her legs during the game.

4. Sophie Devine

Devine was part of the winning Supernovas team last year. The squads were announced on October 11 by BCCI and she wasn’t part of any teams as she is associated with WBBL. Devine has represented her country in both cricket and hockey. A rarity that she is known for in 21st-century cricket is that she doesn’t wear a helmet while batting.

5. Lea Tahuhu

Right-arm New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu was part of the Supernovas team during the 2019 WT20 Challenge. She is also set to miss the upcoming tournament in UAE. Back in 2018, she was also named in Melbourne Renegades’ squad for WBBL. She has 48 WODI and 28 WT20I wickets to her name. In 2020, she was named in the Women’s T20 WC squad by New Zealand.
