Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers and Harmanpreet Kaur’s Supernovas will take on each other at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Match 3 of Jio Women’s T20 Challenge 2020. Supernovas lost the first match against Velocity by 5 wickets and one ball to spare. Meanwhile, Trailblazers decimated Velocity to win the match by 9 wickets and 73 balls in hand.

The two teams last met in the first match of the round-robin stage of Women’s T20 Challenge 2019 when Trailblazers won the match by 2 runs. A win here for the Trailblazers shall guarantee them a spot in the finals. A win for the Supernovas here would mean that they would overtake Velocity on a superior net run-rate. In any case, Trailblazers have almost sealed their place in the playoffs unless they put up a performance even worse than Velocity’s 47 all-out in this game.

Team News:

Trailblazers:

The Trailblazers failed to qualify for the finals last season on net run rate. However, a huge win against Velocity has sorted out this problem for them in their very first match, If they lose this match, it is mathematically improbable that they wouldn’t qualify for the finals on the basis of their superior net run-rate.

Sophie Ecclestone was awarded the player of the match for her exceptional spell of 4/9, which was crucial in humbling the Velocity batting line-up for just 47 runs. Jhulan Goswami and Rajaeshwari Gayakwad also picked up a couple of wickets each. Deandra Dottin then finished the game off with 29*.

Supernovas:

A win here for them shall make it easy for them to reach the finals. However, a loss will mean the end of the campaign and their title defence. Chamari Atapattu opened the batting in the previous match, and top-scored with a well made 44. With contributions from Harmanpreet Kaur (31) and Siriwardene (18), they managed to reach a respectable 126 in 20 overs. However, their bowlers let the game drift away from them after Velocity lost 4 wickets for just 65 runs.
