Windfall: 3 cricketers who earned hefty amounts in their maiden IPL auction
IPL auction throws some new surprises every time it is held. This season was no different with many unexpected buys from the teams. Many times, a completely new player gets picked up for a lot of money. This may be attributed to particular demand by a team or the recent performance of the player. In this article, we are going to list out 3 players who got hefty amounts in their first-ever IPL auction.
Tymal Mills – 12 cr, 2017
Just before the IPL auction of 2017, India and England played a 3-match T20I series. In that series, English pacer Tymal Mills impressed with his performance and his ability to pick wickets in the death overs. This performance helped Mills to a great extent as he was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the auction for a price of 12 crores. This was his first-ever IPL auction and he got an amount which probably he wouldn’t have expected.
Ben Stokes – 14.5 cr, 2017
Ben Stokes was also bought for a big price of 14.5 cr in the IPL auction of 2017 by Rising Pune Supergiant. Being an all-rounder, Stokes was in demand for the auction and he had also performed very well in the limited-overs series before the IPL auction. All these factors led to Stokes getting such a big amount in his first-ever IPL. He became the costliest English player in the IPL after this deal.
Kyle Jamieson – 15 cr, 2021
Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson was the talk of the town even before the IPL auction. The hype helped the pacer to get a huge amount in the IPL auction as he was bought for 15 cr INR by Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB had released Chris Morris for this season, and they were looking for a fine replacement for him. Jamieson can also prove to be useful with the bat. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming IPL.
