“Will think about it”: MS Dhoni on his participation in IPL 2022
MS Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this year. Ever since the IPL has concluded, CSK fans want to know whether Dhoni will be playing the next season with the mega auction set to take place soon. The veteran had then suggested that all will depend on the retention policy which BCCI was yet to finalize that time.
Dhoni, on Saturday, attended an event organised by CSK and the question once again popped up about him featuring in the next IPL season. The 40-year-old responded in his own trademark style.
“I will think about it, there is a lot of time, right now we are just in November. IPL 2022 will be played in April,” Dhoni said according to NDTV.
Dhoni keeps his fans guessing
Even after the IPL 2021 final, Harsha Bhogle had asked MS Dhoni about his IPL future in the presentation ceremony to which he had not given a clear answer. He was clear in his mind that CSK shouldn’t suffer and the team should be built in the auction for the next 10 years.
“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni had said.
This certainly hinted at the wicketkeeper-batter not returning to the field again but his next comment left everyone amused.
When Harsha Bhogle said, “You can be proud of the legacy you have left behind,” MS Dhoni was quick to respond saying that he is yet to leave his legacy behind.
“Still I haven’t left behind,” he had said with a smile on his face.
“I have always planned my cricket. My last game that I played was in Ranchi, the ODI version my last game was at my home town in Ranchi. So hopefully my last T20, it will be in Chennai. Whether its next year or in five years time, we don’t really know,” Dhoni said even as the people attending the event clapped in unison after his last statement.
