WI vs SA: Five players to watch out for in the 2-match Test series
West Indies and South Africa will battle in a short two-match Test series. While the first Test will be played on 10th June 2021, the 2nd Test will commence on 18th June 2021. The West Indies will enter the series on the back of a good run in Test cricket in recent times. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side has not lost any of their last 4 Test matches, and they will look to continue their good run.
On the other hand, South Africa were thrashed by Pakistan in their previous Test series. In the two-match series against Babar Azam and his men, the Proteas were whitewashed 0-2 and will be hoping for a reversal of fortunes. In this article, let us take a look at 5 players to watch out for in the Test series.
5. Jayden Seales
At the age of 19, Jayden Seales has already made some heads turn towards his direction. The right-arm pacer is fast, and can also get an extra bounce off the deck. Seales did a good job in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. He scalped 10 wickets in the tournament and took his wickets at an average of just 18.30. It will certainly be exciting to see how Seales fares at the international level if he is given a chance against South Africa.
4. Aiden Markram
Aiden Markram has had an excellent run in Test cricket in the recent past. He has scored 268 runs in the 6 innings that he has played in 2021 and averages a healthy 53.60 this year in the white flannels. The right-hander has also scored a hundred and a fifty in the whites this year. He will look to continue his good run of form against the West Indies.
3. Kyle Mayers
Kyle Mayers has taken West Indian cricket by storm. Mayers scored a classic 210* in his debut Test match and allowed The West Indies to chase down a mammoth target of 395 against Bangladesh. The left-hander has scored 462 runs in his short Test career lasting 4 Test matches and has scored his runs at an average of 66.00. West Indies will be hoping that the 28-year-old produces another sizzling performance against South Africa.
2. Kraigg Brathwaite
Kraigg Brathwaite was named as the captain of the West Indies Test side ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka earlier this year. And, Brathwaite celebrated his promotion by scoring a classic century in his first series as full-time captain. The right-handed batting veteran has scored 386 runs in the 8 innings that he has played this year, and has scored his runs at an average of close to 50. Brathwaite will hold the key for the West Indies at the top of the order.
1. Dean Elgar
Dean Elgar was appointed as the captain of the South African Test side in March this year. The left-hander has had a stupendous run in Test cricket in 2021. Elgar has scored 277 runs in the whites this year and has scored his runs at an average of 55.40. Elgar’s experience will surely come in handy for the Proteas when they take on the West Indies.
