WI vs IND: Team India meets Sir Garfield Sobers in Barbados during practice session
Team India has set foot on the Caribbean shores to play a multi-format series against the West Indies. The Rohit Sharma-led side will start its tour with a two-match Test series, which they will play in Dominica and Trinidad, respectively. The two-match Test series will be team India’s first assignment in the new World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
Ahead of the first Test match, several Indian players caught up with legendary West Indies all-rounder Sir Garfield Sobers during a training session. India skipper Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin among others shook hands and got clicked with Sobers who is arguably the greatest all-rounder to have played the sport.

Sobers, a highly skilled bowler, an aggressive batter, and an excellent fielder, was one of the finest all-rounders. The 86-year-old made his West Indies Test debut in 1954. He went on to play 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, scoring 8032 runs at a stunning average of 57.78. He struck 26 centuries and 30 fifties with his best individual score of an unbeaten 365.
The Barbados-born cricketer picked up 235 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls. All this at an average of 34.03 and an economy rate of 2.22 in the longest format of the game. Notably, the ICC have named the annual ICC Men’s Cricketer of The Year trophy after Sir Garfield Sobers.
