WI vs IND: Most runs in ODI encounters
India will be locking horns with the West Indies in three One Day Internationals starting Friday, July 22. Senior opener Shikhar Dhawan will be leading India as Rohit Sharma has been rested for the One Day series.
With the unavailability of key players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, the onus will be on some of the emerging players as well as the bench strength to prove a point or two. Just like other big teams, even an India-West Indies rivalry has been a treat to watch since the 70s i.e. when the Caribbeans were the supreme powerhouse of world cricket.
Meanwhile, here’s a look at three players who have scored tons of runs in IND-WI ODIs:
3. Sachin Tendulkar- 1573
Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the best batter in the history of the game with several batting records to his name. The maestro faced a rather ferocious bowling line-up of the Windies including the likes of Curtley Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Ian Bishop, etc. and still managed to dominate them as he amassed 1573 runs against the West Indies in 39 matches.
2. Rohit Sharma- 1601
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma boasts of scoring three double centuries in ODI cricket and also the highest individual score of 264 in this format. Meanwhile, the Mumbai cricketer has so far amassed 1601 runs against the two-time world champions in 34 innings. Rohit breached Sachin Tendulkar’s record during the home One Day series against the Kieron Pollard-led side earlier this year.
1. Virat Kohli- 2261
Virat Kohli is the undisputed batter on this list and holds the ‘Numero Uno’ spot for his batting consistency against the West Indies. Kohli might be going through a slump in form having scored no centuries since November 2019 but his ODI run-scoring record against the West Indies is phenomenal as the batting megastar has scored 2261 runs and has a highest score of an unbeaten 157.
