WI vs IND: India to play two extra T20Is during West Indies tour
As per reports, the Rohit Sharma-led side is likely to play two more T20I matches during their tour to West Indies later in the year. As per Future Tour Programme (FTP), the Indian team will play two Test matches, three ODIs, and three T20Is against the Caribbean side but BCCI and CWI may join forces to change it to five T20I matches, making it a 10-match series.
Discussions about the same have already taken place earlier in the recent ICC meeting in Dubai, but nothing has been finalized as of now. When CWI president, Ricky Skeeritt, was asked about the matter, he neither confirmed nor denied it and instead spoke on the healthy relationship that these two nations share.
“BCCI and CWI have a healthy bilateral relationship that is based on mutual respect and understanding of each other’s needs and role in world cricket,” Ricky Skerritt was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
BCCI planning to host a short home series in June
Right after the World Test Championship final, BCCI is planning to host a short home series to help the team prepare well ahead of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. Currently, the officials are in talks with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan for a three-match ODI series but nothing has been finalized so far.
However, it has been decided that the tournament will take place somewhere between June 12 to June 30 as after that, the Men in Blue will leave for their long tour of the West Indies. Now, the idea of hosting a short series will also give a platform to IPL stars, who will impress the most in the coming season. On the other hand, senior cricketers may take a break from this series in order to manage their workload.
Meanwhile, if the Roger Binny-led organization indeed manages to convince either of the boards, they will have to find a short-term broadcaster as the new broadcast deal is unlikely to have been signed by then. Notably, the current deal ended with the last match against Australia on March 22.
