WI vs IND: How have India’s current T20 players fared in Caribbean
India’s T20I unit will kick off the West Indies tour on August 3 by playing the first two matches in the USA. Post the shocking World Cup semi-final exit, this will be Team India’s first international assignment. The BCCI has named an interesting mix of squads for all three formats. Quite a few players will be playing their maiden series in the West Indies. While some senior members have already gotten a taste of the Caribbean flavour.
Let’s take a look at the T20I performances of the current Indian cricketers on the West Indies tour:
Rohit Sharma
India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma has played four T20Is in the Caribbean. The dashing opener has scored 103 runs in as many innings at an average of 34.33. However, the ‘Hitman’ is yet to reach the three-figure mark in the shortest format of the game here. His highest score is 62, but Sharma has a staggering strike rate of 153.73.
Shikhar Dhawan
Sharma’s partner-in-crime, Shikhar Dhawan will be back in action for the first time since his World Cup century against Australia. Dhawan, who fractured his thumb during the game had to sit out the entire World Cup. The aggressive southpaw has played a couple of T20Is in the West Indies, scoring only 28 runs. But with a strike rate of 121.73, Dhawan will be raring to go on his comeback.
KL Rahul
In his first T20I match against the West Indies in 2016, batting at No.4, KL Rahul smashed a brilliant 51-ball 110* at a strike rate of 215.68. The batsman has fond memories of the ground in Lauderhill, Florida, where India will once again begin their series this year. Rahul would be itching to produce a recap of his innings from three years ago.

Virat Kohli
The Indian captain has a below-par T20I record in the Caribbean, where he’s scored only 69 runs in 4 T20Is. His highest score in these matches has been 39. But India’s batting mainstay has come a long way from the last time he played in the Caribbean two years ago. With the recent rift controversies disrupting Indian cricket, watch out for fireworks from Kohli!
Rishabh Pant
Young Rishabh Pant has played just a solitary T20I in the Caribbean, scoring 38 runs at a strike rate of 108.57. This time around, Pant will have more responsibilities as India’s full-time wicket-keeper and a proper middle-order batsman. The Indian team and its fans will have their hopes pinned on this 24-year-old.
Ravindra Jadeja
A ‘bits-and-pieces cricketer’ one moment, a game-changer in the next. In the dying moments of India’s World Cup semi-final clash against New Zealand, Ravindra Jadeja gave a ray of hope to disappointed Indian fans. The all-rounder will hope to carry the same form to the West Indies, where he’s endured a terrible time in the past. Jadeja has played three T20Is in the Caribbean, picking 3 wickets and scoring just 18 runs. The spin bowler has proved to be costly with the ball, bowling at an economy of 11.23.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
One of India’s front-line seam bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also had a disappointing time in the Caribbean. The seamer has picked up just one wicket in three matches, conceding 106 runs in the process. With Bhuvi not featuring in the Test squad, the T20I and ODI series will be crucial for the young gun’s rhythm.
