WI vs IND: 4th T20I Review – Gill, Jaiswal display batting prowess to level series
Courtesy of fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, team India brushed aside the West Indies by nine wickets to clinch the fourth T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill on Saturday, August 13. With this, the Men in Blue got on level terms 2-2 in the five-match series.
Speaking about the match, the home side won the toss and decided to put up a total. The opening pair of Kyle Mayers and Brandon King failed to get the required kind of start as the former was sent packing for a paltry 19 runs in under three overs.
Shai Hope and Brandon carved out a 35-run stand but their miseries further compounded as team India got the wickets in quick succession to keep the momentum. With the swift dismissals of Brandon, Nicholas Pooran, and skipper Rovman Powell, the Windies were reduced to 57/4.
Down the middle order, Shimron Hetmyer and Hope combined to raise a 49-run stand to help revive their innings. While Hope slammed 45 off 29 balls, Hetmyer hammered 61 off 39 balls which featured four sixes and three fours. With this, the Windies concluded with a competitive total of 178 runs in their 20 overs. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh collected three wickets whereas Kuldeep Yadav added two in his account.
However, during the run-chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill made short work of the total as they got off to a solid start and kept complete control of the contest. A magnificent 165-run stand between the opening pair for the first wicket helped India chase down the total and get on level terms in the series.
