WI vs IND, 2nd Test: West Indies name their 13-man squad
After a horrendous outing in the first Test against India, the West Indies have made slight changes to their squad for the forthcoming second and final test of the series. The two sides are set to lock horns at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on July 20, and the hosts will aim to win the game to level the series 1-1.
The Caribbean team lost to the Rohit Sharma-led side by an innings and 141 runs in their opening match of the new ICC World Test Championship cycle, and hence they will be eager to get back on track. While the West Indies have mostly stuck with the team that fell to India in Dominica, they have replaced fellow all-rounder Raymon Reifer with uncapped off-spinner Kevin Sinclair in their 13-man roster.
Reifer had scores of only two and eleven with the bat in the two innings, while going wicketless in the first Test against India, but he will be travelling with the team to Trinidad and might still be utilized if an injury occurs. The 23-year-old bowler has already played for the team in seven ODIs and six T20Is, giving West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite another bowling option. His most recent appearance was during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier competition in Zimbabwe.
Sinclair grabbed everyone’s attention for his unique wicket-celebration style, as he is known for his signature flips, and if selected to make his Test debut in Trinidad, the Guyana-born right-armer will probably team up with fellow spinner Rahkeem Cornwall. After the conclusion of the second Test, the two sides will lock horns in a three match ODI series, which will be followed by five T20Is.
West Indies squad for the second Test against India: Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermaine Blackwood (vc), Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Kemar Roach, Kevin Sinclair, Jomel Warrican
Travelling Reserves: Tevin Imlach, Akeem Jordan
