Former Indian captain MS Dhoni and veteran opening batsman Virender Sehwag were the two pillars of the Indian cricket team. Dhoni and Sehwag have some golden memories together as they formed a part of India’s squad for the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.

However, the talks regarding the rift between the two finest Indian batsmen are nothing new. The rumors of a tiff between Sehwag and Dhoni started doing rounds after the 2007 T20 World Cup. India was scheduled to play the finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup against Pakistan in South Africa.

Entering the showpiece event, MS Dhoni and the team management made a shocking decision as they decided to drop Sehwag to include all-rounder Yusuf Pathan in the playing XI. It was reported that sitting on the bench in the final didn’t go well with Sehwag and he was upset about the same.

Though India registered a victory in the final against Pakistan by five runs, Yusuf failed to justify his position in the team as he could score just 15 runs off eight deliveries. Coming to the bowling, the all-rounder bowled just one over and went wicketless while conceding five runs.

Though India always quashed the speculations regarding the bad blood between Dhoni and Sehwag, many fans have often accused the former Indian skipper of destroying Sehwag’s career. Notably, Virender Sehwag announced his retirement from the gentlemen’s game after getting dropped from the national side.

Virender Sehwag posted a beautiful birthday wish for MS Dhoni

Meanwhile, nowadays, an old post is going viral on social media where Sehwag denied the accusations of Dhoni putting an end to his cricket career. In 2018, Sehwag took to his official Facebook handle to write a heartfelt birthday wish for the former Indian skipper.

Happy Birthday MS Dhoni. May your life be longer than this stretch and may you find happiness in everything, faster than your stumpings. Om Finishaya Namaha !” Sehwag wrote while posting a picture of him and Dhoni together.

The post garnered a lot of attention from cricket fans. Meanwhile, a fan decided to take a dig at Dhoni for finishing the opening batter’s career as he commented, “Happy birthday to the finisher of Sehwag sir’s career,” the fan commented.

The comment caught the attention of Sehwag too and he replied to it saying that it is wrong and Dhoni isn’t responsible for his cricket career. “Galat statement,” Sehwag replied.
