What will happen if the Reserve Day of IPL 2023 final gets washed out?

The final of the Indian Premier League 2023 got washed out and it will now be played on the reserve day, which is on Monday, May 29. The players, support staff, and the umpires waited for more than three hours for the rain to stop but unfortunately, it didn’t, forcing the game to the next day. Fans, who came to the stadium were asked to keep their physical tickets intact as BCCI expects a full 20-over game tomorrow.

While the weather forecast doesn’t predict of rain tomorrow during the match time, there’s quite a possibility of downpours during the afternoon, which remains a concern for fans, teams, and officials alike. Notably, such severe rainfall wasn’t expected even today but as it happened, the match had to be cancelled due to incessant rainfall.

Gujarat to take the trophy 

The biggest question at this moment is, what will happen if the reserve day gets washed out as well? Well, Gujarat Titans will take the trophy home in that case. The Hardik Pandya-led side managed to finish at the top of the table and courtesy of the same, the team will be given the title in case the match gets called off on May 29. The defending champions managed to win ten out of 14 matches in the season and topped the charts while Chennai Super Kings finished second, three points behind the league leaders.

Thus, Gujarat will be lifting the title for the second consecutive year on account of a better finish on the points table, and Hardik Pandya will be the third skipper in the history of the tournament to do so. MS Dhoni did it in 2010 and 2011 while Rohit Sharma did it in 2019 and 2020.

However, the weather suggests otherwise and a game is expected tomorrow. Toss is going to be a massive factor as bowling first in such conditions would be ideal. Since not the entire ground was covered, the outfield will be extremely fast and the batters can take good advantage of that.
