We’ve made this plan of attacking constantly even if we lose wickets, says Shreyas Iyer
Indian batter Shreyas Iyer said that India’s plan is to keep charging even if they lose wickets, following their loss to South Africa in the second T20I of the ongoing five-match series in Cuttack. He said that it was their game plan and also for the future to go with that mindset while backing themselves and their instincts.
Iyer emphasized their focus on the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia and how they want to plan toward it. He said that having a mindset where they are completely free without thinking about other things is important and they need to put it into practice, keeping the big tournament in mind. He said that even if they failed at that, they would learn and grow as individuals and as a team, which is important ahead of going to Australia.
No matter what happens, we have to execute those plans: Shreyas Iyer
“We have made this plan that we will keep going no matter what happens,” said Iyer after their loss in Cuttack, as quoted by Hindustan Times. “Even if we keep losing wickets, it’s our game plan and in the future too, we will go in with the same mindset. We will back ourselves and back our instincts.” India lost the second T20I after Proteas chased 149 with four wickets and 10 balls to spare.
India, in the absence of senior players such as KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, trail the series by 2-0, meaning that they have to win the next three games on the trot to win the series. “Our main aim is obviously the World Cup, so we have to see to it that we plan towards it,” said Iyer.
“So we have that sort of mindset where we are completely free and not thinking about anything else. No matter what happens, whatever plans we discuss in the team meeting, we have to execute those. Even if we fail, we will learn from that and grow as a player and grow as a team. So that’s more important till we reach Australia,” added Iyer. India will take on South Africa in the third T20I on June 14 (Tuesday) at the Dr. Y.S.R. Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
