We have been very impressed with Wriddhiman Saha: Gary Kirsten

Wriddhiman Saha has always been around the IPL since the inaugural edition for being one of the best keepers in the country, however, his batting credentials haven’t been spoken about a lot as they should be. The veteran batter lost his place in the Indian side recently with Rishabh Pant becoming the first choice, and it looked like the sun had set on Saha’s career.

However, it wasn’t the case as he got a last-minute contract with Gujarat Titans in the mega auction and was benched for the first half of the season. He made an impact straight away after getting into the XI with 281 runs in eight games and has been fantastic at the top, especially in the powerplay. In the previous game against CSK, when Gujarat were chasing a low score, Saha stepped up again with an unbeaten 57-ball 67 to see his side through. Batting consultant Gary Kirsten heaped praises on the 37-year-old for his contributions in a recent interview.

Wriddhiman Saha understands his game and plays really well in the power-play: Gary Kirsten

Gary Kirsten noted that the franchise has been impressed with Saha and lavished praises on him for his professionalism and experience. He added about the impact of Saha in the powerplay and felt that he has always been there whenever the team needs him. He concluded that Saha understands his strengths and stressed the latter’s abilities to play the short ball really well.

“We have been obviously very impressed (with Saha). It is great to have him in the team. He is a real professional. And he has got good experience in the IPL and in all (forms) of cricket. He understands his game and plays really well in the power-play. For us, he was always an important asset to have when we needed him and he has come in and done really well,” said Gary Kirsten at the virtual-post-match press conference as quoted by India Today.

“I don’t think there is any specific (thing) that we need to say to him (Saha) because he knows how to play the power-play really well. The most important thing is guys (players) play to their strengths and abilities. He is a great player of the short ball,” he added.
