We are looking at hosting IPL 2022 league matches in Mumbai & Pune: Sourav Ganguly
The preparations for the 15th edition of IPL are going full throttle to make it a successful event once again. However, with the addition of two new teams, the tournament is expected to be more exciting and thrilling which in turn will produce a great mega auction in February too. As per the latest reports around IPL, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has given an update.
Ganguly spoke of hosting the IPL 2022 entirely in India until and unless the COVID-19 situation goes out of hand. Also, the league stage matches are expected to take place in Maharashtra (Mumbai and Pune). And the venues for playoffs are yet to be decided.
“It will be held in India this year, until and unless COVID-19 hits the roof. As far as venues are concerned, we are looking at hosting the matches in Maharashtra – Mumbai, and Pune. We will take a call on the venues for the knockout stages later,” Sourav Ganguly said while speaking to Sportstar.
IPL 2022 mega auction to take place on February 12-13 in Bangalore
Ahead of the IPL 2022, the mega auction is set to get underway on February 12-13 in Bangalore and it remains to be seen how teams will walk up with their best strategies. The list of players who have registered for auction is already out and almost 590 players are set to go under the hammer.
There are various teams who would be looking for their skippers too in this mega auction and franchises like PBKS will be walking in the contest with a huge purse. On the other hand, it remains to be seen if the tournament can be successfully hosted in India as the 2021 edition had to be halted midway due to a chunk of cases across camps.
It was later held in UAE and the entire 2020 edition was played in the UAE due to the same concerns. Also, ahead of India’s white balls series against West Indies, several players and staff members from India have tested positive for COVID-19, adding more to the problem.
