‘We are all in our rooms’ – BCCI asks Delhi Capitals to quarantine
There is a threat looming over the continuity of the 2021 IPL after coronavirus made its presence felt in the IPL bio-bubble. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the other IPL authorities were dealt with a massive blow after two Kolkata Knight Riders cricketers, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19.
Though the other players of the team tested negative, they were asked to self-isolate. This was followed by two members of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contingent including the likes of bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a bus cleaner returning positive for the deadly virus. However, rapid antigen tests conducted later on Monday afternoon indicated that they had returned false positives earlier.
Delhi Capitals told to quarantine
It is now understood that the BCCI has instructed all the players and support staff of Delhi Capitals to self-isolate until further notice.
It is understood that the advice is inspired by the fact that DC locked horns with KKR at Ahmedabad in their last encounter. Since BCCI is yet to discover how Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier contracted Covid-19, they don’t want to take a chance and as a precautionary measure have told DC to quarantine themselves.
“As we had played our last game against KKR, we have been advised to go into quarantine and all of us are in isolation. We are all in our rooms,” a Delhi Capitals official said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“The duration of the quarantine is not immediately known but there is now no guarantee that the Delhi team’s scheduled practice session at the Motera on Tuesday (May 4) will take place. We don’t have any information if that practice session will go ahead,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the BCCI postponed the match between KKR and RCB that was originally scheduled for May 3 at Ahmedabad. Though the Indian board is yet to announce the rescheduled date of the KKR vs RCB clash, they have decided to continue with the league from Tuesday as per the schedule.
