WATCH: Shreyas Iyer returns to practice after shoulder injury
There is some good news from the Indian team and Delhi Capitals camp as Shreyas Iyer has returned to training after a long time. The Mumbai batsman was injured during an ODI match against England earlier this year, which ruled him out of the Indian Premier League 2021 and beyond that.
It seems the young batsman is all set to return to international cricket after a four-month-long break. On Wednesday, he uploaded a story on his Instagram profile and was seen practising in an indoor facility. The screen recording of the story was later uploaded by a fan on Twitter. The 26-year-old was seen practising some of his classical shots during that training session.
Iyer at this moment is trying to race against time to be fully fit before the second half of the Indian Premier League. Initially, he was ruled out of the entire tournament, but the tournament had to be postponed after running half its course. This has now given Iyer an opportunity to make a mark in the 2021 edition.

Delhi Capitals yet to decide their captain for second leg of IPL 2021
Apart from this, he will also have his eyes set on the ICC T20 World Cup which will be played right after the World Cup. He was also named in a group of 45 players selected by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a fitness training camp ahead of the domestic season.
Once Iyer returns, it will be interesting to see if he is handed over the captaincy. Rishabh Pant was named the captain in Iyer’s absence and the young wicketkeeper-batsman did a great job and took Delhi Capitals to number one on the points table during the first half of the tournament. Under his captaincy, Delhi won six of their eight matches.
Recently during an interaction, Iyer gave his views as well. “I don’t know about the captaincy, it’s in the hands of the owners. But the team has already been doing well and we are on top and that’s what really matters to me. My main aim and goal is to lift the trophy which Delhi has never done before,” Iyer said on The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel.
For now, one thing is for sure, if everything goes right, Iyer will be in Delhi’s XI when they play their first match in the second half of the IPL 2021.
