WATCH: Sachin Tendulkar’s special message on India’s 73rd Independence Day

Independence Day

In an exclusive video interview with 100MB, former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar delivered a special message to the country on the occasion of India’s 73rd Independence Day.

Tendulkar has often spoken about various social issues in India relating to education and healthcare. In his decade-long association with UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), the Master Blaster has actively supported the organisation’s causes. In 2003, he led an initiative to create awareness about the importance of polio prevention in the country.

Since 2008, Tendulkar has taken up the creation and promotion of hygiene and sanitation across communities in partnership with UNICEF. In 2013, UNICEF named him their Ambassador for South Asia.

In the video, Tendulkar is seen talking about ‘early childhood development’, a significant contributor to the growth of a child in the later stages of life. The former cricketer, a father of two, said that his association with UNICEF taught him about the impact of a child’s development on society and the nation at large.

Tendulkar stressed on the concept of ‘eat, play and love’ that helps a child’s brain develop in infancy. He also spoke about the importance of a mother’s prenatal diet, breastfeeding and safe infrastructure, things that are instrumental in the child’s overall growth.
