WATCH: Niroshan Dickwella and Dom Sibley have light banter
Sledging has become a part and parcel of our game in modern times. Especially during Test matches, we often find the players sledging each other. The addition of stump mic has also allowed fans to often hear some of those sledges. It spices up the match and makes great entertainment for the fans watching the match on television.
In the Test match between Sri Lanka and England, the stump mic was able to catch a few of those cheeky sledges. Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella was constantly in the ears of the England batsmen. He was trying to disrupt the rhythm of the batters, something which he managed to do with Jonny Bairstow in the first innings. However, it was a conversation between Dickwella and England opener Dominic Sibley which took the cake.
During the final innings of the Test match, England was up against a small total set by Sri Lanka. While Sibley was playing cautiously, Dickwella cheekily asked him whether he would keep his place in the side for the upcoming Tests in India. The young opener admitted to the wicketkeeper that he is not sure as he hasn’t had the best series with the bat in Sri Lanka. The clip was uploaded by a fan on Twitter.

Sibley has managed scores of 4, 2 and 0 leading into the final innings of the second Test. In a tricky chase, England lost some wickets and was struggling to make runs on a track which was turning a lot. But, Sibley managed to keep his cool and batted for 144 balls, staying unbeaten on 56. Along with Jos Butler, who scored 46 runs off 48 balls, Sibley managed to take England home. The visitors won the match by six wickets and clinched the series 2-0.
In the first innings, Dickwella was chirping from behind the stumps while Bairstow was batting. He spoke about how the batsman wasn’t picked for the first two Tests against India. In the same over, the English batsman lost his wicket. The English team was also giving Dickwella a little taste of his own medicine as they asked him to bat properly, or else Dinesh Chandimal might be given the gloves and he might get dropped.
