Watch: Azam Khan carried on a stretcher after being struck on the head

Pakistan’s emerging wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan got injured after being hit by the ball on his head. It was during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022 encounter between the Galle Gladiators and the Kandy Falcons.

Reportedly, Azam has been shifted to a hospital after sustaining a head injury. As of now, there is no information about his current condition and the extent of the injury. It also remains to be seen whether he will be available for selection for the Galle Gladiators’ next match.

Azam Khan injures himself behind the stumps

This happened during the 16th over of the Kandy Falcons’ run chase delivered by Nuwan Pradeep. On the third delivery of that over, Pradeep bowled a slower delivery down the leg side and it appeared that the batter Chamika Karunaratne would easily deposit it into the stands.

However, the batter did not even attempt it and left the ball in order to get a wide. Unfortunately for the stumper Azam, the ball bounced once before reaching him and when he tried to collect it, he was floored after the ball struck him awkwardly on his head.

Azam Khan could not recover from that nasty blow and remained lying on the ground for a while. The support staff came to the field to check on the youngster. They first performed a concussion test on him and since he was in no position to continue keeping from that point, he had to be carried out on a stretcher from the field.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan, the Galle Gladiators head coach, also came to the field to check on his son’s condition. He tapped Azam’s leg and had a confident smile on his face assuming that the injury is not too serious and the youngster will recover in no time.
