Wasim Jaffer takes up Academy Batting Coach Role in Bangladesh
India’s former Test opener and leading run-getter in Ranji Trophy, Wasim Jaffer, will be taking up the batting consultancy role in Bangladesh. He has been roped in by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for its academy in Mirpur. This will be the first international coaching assignment for the batting stalwart.
Jaffer played his last Test match for India in 2008 and has performed consistently in domestic cricket. He scored 1944 runs in 31 Tests including a double century in West Indies. The Mumbai-based batsman has more 19,000 first-class runs on his name. He is also an integral part of the consecutive Ranji Trophy winners – Vidarbha.
While Indian cricket has not enlisted Jaffer in any type of coaching capacity, Bangladesh Cricket Board has pounced on the opportunity. Kaisar Ahmed, BCB Game Development Manager, confirmed the appointment.
“Jaffer has been given one-year contract from May to April 2020 as a batting consultant of BCB academy in Mirpur. Initially, he will look after the age group teams of U16 to U19 at the game development unit of the academy. Later on, he may be roped in as the batting consultant of the BCB High Performance Unit (NCA equivalent),” Ahmed informed.
This will be a tremendous opportunity for Bangladeshi youngsters to learn from a batting great. Jaffer is renowned for his technique and composure while batting. He will be training Bangladesh under-19, A-team and senior side.
