Warner pens heartfelt note for Sri Lanka Cricket after conclusion of multi-format series
The second and final Test match between Sri Lanka and Australia marked the end of the latter’s tour of the island nation. Australia toured Sri Lanka for three T20Is, followed by five ODIs and two Test matches. While the hosts lost the T20I series by 2-1 in the rain-affected series, they bounced back stronger and won the ODI series by 3-2.
To conclude the series on a higher note, they defeated Australia in the second match of the two-match series and leveled the series at 1-1. The hosts faced a tough time on the field as many of their players were taken out of the match midway after they contracted the Covid-19 virus, but even then, they managed to win the match by an innings and 39 runs.
Australian opener David Warner shared a picture of the Sri Lankan flag on his official Instagram handle and penned down an emotional and heartfelt note thanking Sri Lanka for hosting the Australians so well for over a month amid the crisis in the country.
Thank you and I can’t wait to one day visit for a holiday with my family: David Warner
Sri Lanka Cricket successfully hosted Australia and India amidst the economic and political unrest
The 22 million-strong nation of Sri Lanka is experiencing the worst economic crisis in seven decades, leaving millions of people unable to afford basic necessities like food, medicine, and fuel. In recent months, thousands of people have protested in the streets, urging the nation’s leaders to step down amid claims of economic mismanagement.
The Prime Minister’s house was set on fire by the locals of the nation, and the protesters even climbed on the Galle Fort, near the stadium, as the protest nearly came down to the playing field. Amid all the crisis, SLC managed to host not just Australia, but also the Indian women’s team for a bilateral series.
