Earlier this month, the BCCI announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Rather than the players being selected for the global event, what caught the attention of fans and experts was the name of MS Dhoni in the list as the mentor of the team. This brilliant move by the BCCI selection panel was lauded by one and all.

Sunil Gavaskar called this decision a good move, while India head coach Ravi Shastri felt it was perfect to have Dhoni with the boys during the high-octane T20 World Cup. Jumping into the bandwagon, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag said Dhoni’s presence as a mentor will immensely help the team especially the bowlers as he was always bowler’s captain during his time of captaincy for team India.

“I am very happy that MS accepted the offer to be the Team Mentor for the T20 World Cup. I know many people want that MS should again come back into the mainstream of Indian cricket and being roped in as the mentor is the best thing that could have happened,” Sehwag said according to India TV.

Sehwag further opined Dhoni understood the bowlers well and that helped him correctly deal with them during his close to decade-long leadership with the team.

“As a keeper, MS was exceptional with his understanding of field placements and this is something that will help the bowling unit in this World Cup. The bowlers can pick his brains and get useful tips on planning against a batsman,” the explosive opener of yesteryears said.

MS Dhoni will be a perfect mentor to the youngsters reckons Virender Sehwag

The former India opener concluded by saying that Dhoni is the perfect person to have in the team as a guide to youngsters as he would help even the introvert players to open up.

“There are always players in any international side, who are shy and do hesitate to go up to their skipper and strike up a cricketing conversation. MS has always been that kind of a person who is easily approachable and also a perfect trouble shooter for youngsters.” India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24.
