Virender Sehwag lashes out at Prithvi Shaw after DC vs GT
After a phenomenal start to his international career, then-India head coach Ravi Shastri lauded youngster Prithvi Shaw and stated that he had a bit of a Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Brain Lara in him. Since then, he has scored ample runs in domestic cricket but has struggled with his form and consistency in IPL.
Shubman Gill, on the other hand, has gone on to create history in international cricket. Once he was behind in the pecking order but courtesy of his phenomenal performances time and again, Shaw’s opening partner from U19 days has now become a vital part of India’s white-ball squad.
That is why former India opener Virender Sehwag has lashed out at Shaw after the match against Gujarat Titans as he expected better performances from the 23-year-old. Notably, in the match against the Hardik Pandya-led side, the opener got dismissed rather cheaply as Delhi eventually lost the match by six wickets.
“He has been dismissed playing those kind of shots so many times…but he should also learn from his mistakes, right? Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
GT handed DC their second consecutive defeat
The David Warner-led side once again struggled to get going with the bat. The skipper looked pale for the majority of the time while Sarfaraz Khan’s poor strike rate eventually came back to haunt the Capitals. Only Axar Patel looked in great touch as the southpaw smashed 36 runs off 22 deliveries. With that, DC finished on 162 runs after 20 overs.
Meanwhile, they started well with the ball as South Africa international Anrich Nortje dismissed the openers in the powerplay, while Khaleel Ahmed got the better of Pandya in the sixth over. However, replacing Kane Williamson, Sai Sudharsan played a sensational innings, scoring 62* runs off 48 deliveries to take the game away from the hosts. David Miller’s quick cameo of 31* runs off 16 deliveries too came in handy in the end.
