Virat Kohli’s coach Rajkumar Sharma confident of his ward finding form soon
Virat Kohli’s tryst with centuries is on a break it seems. The man hasn’t scored a ton across formats since November 2019 and is yet to set the stage on fire in the ongoing England tour. He has also slipped to the fifth position in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen, his lowest in the last few years. Kohli’s childhood coach, meanwhile, has expressed shock over his ward’s fifth rank as Test batsman and is confident that the Indian skipper will score a century soon.
0, 42 and 20 are Virat Kohli’s scores in three innings of the five-match Test series against England so far. However, as the series has progressed, the 32-year-old has looked increasingly comfortable. In both the Test matches, he has led the side well and has often spoken about not worrying about his own form.
His coach Rajkumar Sharma also has revealed that Virat Kohli is in a great frame of mind at the moment and there is no need to worry about him. Sharma spoke with him recently and reckons a big hundred is soon coming from the Indian captain.
“I don’t feel there is any need to motivate him because he is extremely motivated. When I had spoken to him after the last match as well, he was quite excited and was happy that they had won and was not too worried about his runs. When he has such an attitude, a big hundred is about to come,” Rajkumar Sharma said while speaking to India news.
Rajkumar Sharma on Kohli’s latest ICC rankings
In the meantime, when Rajkumar Sharma was made aware that Virat Kohli has slipped to the fifth position in the ICC rankings, he was shocked. Interestingly, Kohli’s dip in form has coincided with Joe Root’s peak form and the latter has climbed to the second spot thanks to his sensational batting so far in the series.
“It is shocking news for me that Virat Kohli has fallen to the fifth spot. I was expecting that Joe Root would have probably gone ahead of him. I will definitely talk to him,” Sharma further added.
