Virat Kohli set to relinquish T20I captaincy post the T20 World Cup 2021
India’s all-format captain Virat Kohli has announced his decision to step down as India’s T20I captain. The cricketer wishes to focus more on the remaining two formats and shall continue in T20Is as a specialist batsman. Kohli took to Twitter to make his statement public.

In his statement, Kohli highlighted the fact that he has been representing India in all three formats over the last 8-9 years and has been leading the side for the major part of it. He also revealed that he had spoken with head coach Ravi Shastri and his vice-captain Rohit Sharma before arriving at the decision. Kohli confirmed that he will continue to give his 100% in his capacity as a specialist batsman in T20Is.
Kohli is currently India’s 2nd most experienced T20I captain after MS Dhoni. The batsman has led India in 45 T20Is of which 27 have resulted in a victory for the nation. T20 World Cup 2021 will be Kohli’s first and the last T20 World Cup as an Indian captain.
