Virat Kohli posts an inspiring message after India Women’s heartbreaking WC exit
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli tweeted that the Indian women’s team can feel proud after their excellent efforts in the Women’s World Cup 2022 despite missing out on reaching the semi-finals. India, in a must-win encounter against South Africa, put up a big score of 274 on the board with three half-centuries from the batters. However, South Africa managed to chase down the total off the last ball of the game which ended India’s hopes of winning the Women’s World Cup this time.
The game went right down to the wire as quickfire innings from Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon kept South Africa in the hunt for a victory. However, Mignon du Preez’s unbeaten half-century to see her side home was one of the turning points, and rightly so, she was adjudged the player of the match. While India might look back at the no-ball bowled in the final over by Deepti Sharma, it has to be noted that with seven runs needed off six balls, the batting side would fancy winning the game on most days.
You gave it your all: Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, who has been showering his love and support on the Indian team right from the start of the Women’s World Cup 2022, tweeted about the hard emotions during an exit in a big tournament. But he credited the Indian team for their efforts in the match and mentioned that the Mithali Raj-led side can be proud of the way they battled in the tournament.
West Indies have progressed to the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup 2022 as a result of India’s loss against South Africa as their rain-affected game against South Africa helped them massively to pick up one point. India had reached the finals of the previous Women’s World Cup in 2017, but could not go past England.
