Virat Kohli has found his rhythm: Mike Hesson
Royal Challengers Bangalore haven’t made a stunning start to Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021’s UAE leg and so hasn’t Virat Kohli. The Bangalore-based outfit suffered a humiliating nine-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in their first outing of the second half. Electing to bat first in Abu Dhabi, RCB got bundled out for a paltry 92. Chasing the mediocre total, KKR didn’t break a sweat and crossed the line with as many as 10 overs to spare.
Skipper Kohli also failed to make his bat talk, managing just five off four balls. The veteran batter also faced a lot of backlash for his dismal show. However, RCB head coach Mike Hesson feels Kohli has found his rhythm and can play some substantial knocks in the upcoming matches. He also said the RCB skipper is desperate to do well in the Arab nation.
Virat Kohli likes one-on-one sessions to get his confidence and rhythm: Mike Hesson
“Look, there are some times when our batsmen look to do that to get some extra opportunity. Virat is obviously desperate to do well, he likes one-on-one sessions to get his confidence and basically find his rhythm. It definitely looks like he has found it,” said Hesson on RCB’s official YouTube channel.
It has to be noted Kohli, ahead of the resumption of IPL 2021, announced he’ll step down as RCB captain after the competition of the tournament. Calling Kohli’s announcement ‘timely,’ many fans and experts claimed the decision could cause unrest in the dressing room. However, Hesson isn’t of the same opinion.
“I think it was actually to get any form of distraction out early. We talked about making that announcement as soon as possible really, all the players were aware of it. It has not impacted our performance against KKR. We were not sharp with the bat, we lost wickets. But I am confident that this group will turn around pretty quickly,” said Hesson during a virtual post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s men are still in a comfortable position despite the thumping defeat against KKR. With five wins in eight games, the side is currently third in the team standings and would be confident of getting a place in the playoffs. In their next assignment, RCB will meet three-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday (September 24).
