Virat Kohli disappointed after India’s 1-2 series loss against South Africa
India Test skipper Virat Kohli said that the series loss to South Africa was a bitter pill to swallow. The visitors started the series with a resounding 113-run win at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Kohli and Co. looked the firm favourites to win their maiden Test series on South African soil. However, the rub of the green didn’t go in their favour from there onwards.
Dean Elgar’s men won the second Test by seven wickets at the Wanderers in Johannesburg to draw level in the three-match series. The skipper showed a great amount of resilience to take the Proteas over the line. India, in the meantime, slumped to another seven-wicket loss, this time in the third and final Test at the Newlands in Cape Town.
After India’s 1-2 loss in the series, the 33-year-old Kohli was a tad disappointed, but he thanked his well-wishers for their immense support. He took to Twitter and wrote, “A tough one to take. Thank you to all the fans for your support.”

Following India’s defeat in Cape Town, the Delhi-born Kohli said that India weren’t able to capitalise on the chances they were provided with. The veteran was of the opinion that batting collapses in overseas conditions haven’t helped the national team by any means.
Kohli also had words of praises for the Elgar-led Proteas for making a stupendous comeback after the defeat in the first game.
“It’s a great spectacle of Tests for everyone to watch; hard-fought series. Great first game but SA did amazingly well. In both Tests they won, they were clinical with the ball in crunch moments. Lapse of concentration cost us key moments and they seized those moments; absolutely deserving winners in the end,” Kohli was quoted as saying.
“As I said, one of the challenges we’ve faced touring abroad is make sure capitalising on momentum, when we’ve done that we’ve won Tests away from home. When we haven’t, they’ve cost us quite bad. Have had a few collapses that have cost us important moments and Test matches”.
India and South Africa are now set to face each other in a three-match ODI series, starting Wednesday, January 19.
