Veda Krishnamurthy opines on battling the toughest times in her personal life
Indian women’s team celebrated middle-order batter Veda Krishnamurthy is battling tough times in her personal life. Veda suffered two personal losses due to the novel coronavirus as her mother and sister passed away within two weeks last month in Karnataka.
The death of her mother and sister has completely shattered the 28-year-old. Veda was involved in an interactive session where she spoke at lengths regarding how she and her family is coping up and how the death of her mother and sister has left her completely destroyed.
“I’m a big believer in what destiny holds for you, but I really hoped that my sister would come back home. When she didn’t, I was completely destroyed. All of us were broken to pieces. I still had to put up a brave face for the rest of the family. What I had to do in those testing couple of weeks was learn to tune myself out of my grief. But it keeps coming back to haunt you,” Krishnamurthy told ‘ESPNcricinfo’.
Further in the interaction, Veda revealed that apart from her, everyone in the family contracted the deadly virus. Thus, she had the sole responsibility of arranging all the medical facilities for everyone in her family. That was the time when she realized how difficult it is was for several other people to access basic care.
“Going through my Twitter feed at the time, I felt a lot of people were struggling with something as basic as getting a doctor to instruct them on what they should be doing – whether that was isolating at home or something else,” she recalled.
Mental strength is important: Veda Krishnamurthy
Many reports suggest that battling with COVID-19 has a negative impact on one’s mental health. Veda also echoed the same sentiments as she asserted that mental strength is important to fight Covid-19. Speaking about her own personal experience, the right-hander revealed that her sister got panic attacks before her death.
“Mental strength is important. My oldest sister, Vatsala, had panic attacks before she passed away from COVID. My mom might also have panicked, because the night before she died of the virus, in my hometown, Kadur, about 230km north-west of Bangalore, she learned that everybody else in the family had tested positive, including the kids. I don’t know, but maybe that affected her,” she said.
