Unmukt Chand announces retirement for India, set to ply his trade in the US
Unmukt Chand was a player with immense potential, but that potential sadly did not allow him to wear the Indian jersey. Chand was the captain of the U-19 Indian side and led India to the U-19 World Cup victory as well. Chand was considered the next big thing in Indian cricket.
However, his national dream did not materialize, and as a result, the right-hander has decided to bid adieu to his dreams of representing India. He took to Twitter to announce that his journey in Indian cricket is over, and he is seeking newer pastures in the world through a heartfelt letter.
In the letter, Chand stated that he had grown up with the dream of representing India, and is grateful to have achieved some milestones as well. Stating that the journey is only halfway through, Chand tweeted that he can proudly look back at his cricketing journey.
Unmukt Chand reflects back on the U-19 World Cup victory
Unmukt Chand also stated in his letter that it was a special feeling for him to lift the U-19 World Cup title and bring a smile to the faces of so many people. The 28-year-old further added that he is ready to take the next leap of faith and enter into new territory.
Unmukt Chand further thanked the DDCA for spotting his talent and giving him an opportunity so early in his cricketing career and stated that he would cherish the fond memories that he has experienced.
Chand admitted that the last few years of his career have not been smooth, and there were opportunities that were denied to him. Chand concluded by stating that he would like to bid adieu to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and seek better opportunities across the world.
Even though Chand could not play for India, he was a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played 21 IPL matches and scored 300 runs at an average of 15.00 He scored a solitary fifty in his IPL career.
