U19 WC 2022: IND vs UGA Review – India progress with a thumping win
Although India U19 were expected to beat Uganda U19, they managed to do it without breaking a sweat, and rather convincingly. As a matter of fact, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that they completely demolished the Murungi-led side.
After being asked to bat first, the Asian side, who were still playing without the services of their regular captain and vice-captain, saw their opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi continue his good form as he get to his century. He went on to score 144 off 120 deliveries. However, the best was yet to come.
Raj Bawa scored a superb 162 off just the 108 deliveries and provided an epic finish to what was a brilliant batting performance. As Uganda U19 had to chase a mammoth total of 406, it was never going to be easy for them. Thus, India U19 were all over them from ball one and kept picking wickets.
Their captain Nishant Sindhu was the star with the ball as he picked up four wickets. On the other hand, Rajvardhan Hangargekar took two wickets as well. Thus, the Sindhu-led side bundled the opposition for 79 and won by a whopping 326 runs.
It is to be noted that barring the skipper, none of the batters from the Uganda U19 side scored more than 30. In fact, he picked three wickets with the ball as well. The blues thus go into the quarter-final with a lot of confidence.
Top performers of the match:
Raj Bawa:
Raj Bawa was scoring boundaries and sixes for fun. His knock of 162 came at a strike rate of 150, and included 14 boundaries and eight sixes respectively. Thus, he ensured that the absence of Yash Dhull and Shaik Rashid weren’t felt. The 19-year-old went on to win the player of the match award as well.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi:
Raghuvanshi has been in amazing form in the ongoing tournament. With his 144 in the final match of the group stage, he is now third on the list of the highest run-scorers of the tournament as of now. India U19 would hope that he continues his good run in the knockout stages too.
What next for both teams?
As India U19 had already qualified for the Super League quarter-final, this game was only a formality for them. Nevertheless, such a clinical victory would definitely make them more confident. However, they would still be hoping that their players who didn’t play the last two matches due to COVID-19 would be available for them in their next game. As for Uganda U19, they lost all their games and will have to return home empty-handed. However, as their captain Murungi said, this was a learning experience for them, and their youngsters will only get better with age.
