U19 WC 2022: IND vs BAN Review – India cruise ahead by taking down Bangladesh
India U19 continued their dominant performance in the ongoing World Cup as they went on to win the quarter-final on Saturday by defeating Bangladesh by five wickets. Thus, the four-time champions have now booked a spot in the semi-final, and are just one win away from reaching the grand finale.
As Bangladesh had beaten them in the final of the previous edition of the tournament in 2020, this was sweet revenge for the team in blue. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Indian bowlers were all over the opposition batters. The Hasan-led side kept losing wickets at regular intervals and thus, couldn’t go on to get a big score.
Thus, they were dismissed for a sub-par total of 111. India side then went on to chase 112 rather comfortably, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi top-scored with 44 off 65 balls. Ripon Mondal’s four-fer in the second innings was one of the few positives for Bangladesh U19.
It is to be noted that India’s captain and vice-captain, who weren’t able for the team’s previous two games as they had tested positive for COVID-19, had returned for this game. As a matter of fact, the skipper Yash Dhull remained unbeaten and saw his team through.
“Our team combination has been very good and the boys are gelling well. Whenever someone is down, we all get together to bring them up. It is a lifetime experience here. The team is improving day by day. Laxman sir giving his experience gives us a lot of help in the middle. We will look at the semis on the day of the match depending on how the wicket is,” said Yash Dhull after the competition of the match.
Top Performers of the match:
Ravi Kumar:
Ravi Kumar was absolutely brilliant on Saturday, as it was his spell that was the catalyst towards Bangladesh suffering a batting collapse. He took three wickets in his seven overs, and gave away just 14 runs. Thus, he was named the player of the match.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi:
The leading run-getter for India in this edition of the tournament was once again superb. He scored 44, and looked solid during his stay at the crease. Thus, his side would hope that he continues his good form in the semi-final as well.
What next for both teams?
India are set to face Australia in the semi-final of the tournament on February 2. As for the defending champions, they can take pride in the way they played as their journey in the tournament ended.
